Independent Assessment
Where allegations of sexual abuse or professional misconduct have been made, there is usually conflict between the client (often including their partner) and the statutory agencies. Their obligations under the Children's Act force statutory agencies to use a 'child centered approach' which will sometimes appear to be failing to take account of the needs of the alleged offender and his/her partner.
Although the children's needs will remain paramount we will offer a completely independent and objective assessment of the alleged offender. (especially when integrated with an assessment of the partner) This can offer a way forward in achieving breakthrough from the 'deadlock'. Furthermore, it can be of great assistance to the Court in making appropriate decisions as to risk levels, risk management, contact, placement, Intervention and viability of family reconstruction etc.
RWA (Ray Wyre Associates) brings to this process a wealth of experience in working with alleged offenders (including those in absolute denial). We can provide a range of services, which includes risk assessment and ability to protect. We have worked with both male and female perpetrators in Civil and Criminal proceedings and are fully experienced as Expert Witnesses.
This comprehensive knowledge and experience allows us to bring an objectivity to any assessment which does not assume guilt and is built on the ability to engage with alleged offenders in a dynamic process that offers hope for change for those who have been engaged in inappropriate behaviour with children. In addition, where necessary and practicable, we can offer Intervention (either on an individual basis or in group) to offenders and their partners, even where 'absolute denial' exists.
We also offer advice to defence/prosecution lawyers with regard to criminal cases. This is helping the barristers/solicitors understand sexual crime. We offer advice during trial with regard to the kind of questioning to undertake with defendants, witnesses and expert witnesses who are giving evidence.
Risk assessment consists of:
Reading of the case files and other relevant material as provided.
Liaising with lead solicitor and other experts/parties as required.
Individual interview(s) with the client of 3 to 6 hours duration.
Analysis of all material received and subsequently obtained in the light of the interview(s).
Production of comprehensive written report with conclusions and recommendations (This will often include the answering of specific questions in the Letter of Instruction).
The venue for the assessment would normally take place in the home area by prior arrangement.
